PRE-PLANNING GUIDE
GAS PRESSURE SPARK products are engineered, safety tested and certified to function properly within a specific gas supply pressure range. It is CRITICALLY IMPORTANT that the gas lines be properly sized and installed by a licensed plumber and/or certified gas technician to deliver continuous operating pressure within the range stated for each product. Several variables should be taken into consideration when sizing the gas lines:
1. Overall peak demand on the system.
2. Length of run
3. Number of elbows in the run. (these will cause restrictions in the line and can adversely affect the flow of gas through the system)
4. No log lighter valves should be included in the system (if one is pre-existing it must be removed) Failure to supply minimum running pressure will cause the unit to perform poorly- if at all less than minimum supply pressure is not covered under warranty.
VENTING TYPE SPARK Modern Fires’ direct vent fireplaces are tested with, and specify to use M&G Durvent Direct Vent Pro 58DVA or 46DVA (an industry standard pipe supplier and available throughout North America) Direct Vent Pro is a concentric pipe system and is the only venting approved for SPARK direct vent fireplaces. Use of any other venting will lead to an unsafe condition, product malfunction and may void the product warranty. DO NOT USE “B” VENT
PROPER VENTING CONFIGURATION Proper venting configurations are critically important in the safe and functional use of all direct vent systems. Each SPARK direct vent fireplace has its own specific requirements for allowable venting configurations. It is highly recommended that a pre-installation diagram of the proposed vent configuration be sent to SPARK for review. This should include a basic sketch of the full vent run from the fireplace to the termination cap on the outside of the building. NOTE: The lengths of all horizontal and vertical segments as well as locations and types of elbows used should be indicated on the venting plan. As a value added service, SPARK WILL REVIEW FREE OF CHARGE this pre-installation diagram for COMPLIANCE to the venting requirement.
ELEVATION All installations above 4500 feet above sea level require special consideration and possible product de-regulating at the factory. If you are planning to use a SPARK product above 4500 ft it is critical to indicate this early in your investigation/ product selection and certainly mention it in the order process.
NOTE: LINEAR BURNER SYSTEMS Due to complexity and full customization of the SPARK Linear Burner Systems (both indoor and outdoor) a dedicated pre-planning guide is attached to the Quick Overview.
